La Cambre fashion alumna Marie Adam-Leenaerdt debuts at Paris Fashion Week
Paris – Belgian fashion designer Marie Adam-Leenaerdt, alumna of the fashion design programme at art school La Cambre in Brussels, opened Paris Fashion Week Womenswear on Monday with an eclectic collection that featured a mix of swimsuits and huge double-breasted suit jackets.
It was Leenaerdt’s first presentation at Fashion Week in Paris. The young designer wanted to challenge the traditional Spring/Summer vs Autumn/Winter divide in the annual fashion calendar with a touch of humour.
The motto was “Let’s go to the beach!”, but the collection kicks off with a long grey sweater, then moves on to matching printed swimsuits with huge handbags, followed by black trench coats.

“I want to question the idea of seasonality: is it still relevant to do Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections?” she told French press agency AFP at the end of the fashion show. The swimsuits are transformed into sarongs, sometimes it is the dresses that seem ready for the plunge.
And if necessary, the model parades with a huge vertically striped tent, resembling the mobile booths that were used in the early twentieth century to change by the seaside.(AFP)
